Company History
Half a Century of Steel Fabrication Services
The Early Years
Capital Steel was incorporated in 1951. The initial focus on the company was to fabricate structural steel for heavy highway bridge construction and to offer for sale a variety of steel products. Its first steel fabrication shop was a small wood frame building with a stiff leg lifting device outside and one small bridge crane inside the facility. Capital Contractors, the parent company of Capital Steel, has been in business and family owned since 1903.
Growth and Expansion
Over the years the company experienced consistent growth through an expanded clientele of bridge contractors and sales of steel products to regional counties in the surrounding states. The company has continued to expand its fabrication services and markets. Though the company no longer has a retail sales force or offers for sale such products as corregated steel pipe or reinforcing bars, the fabrication of steel products grew to include not only beams and plate but also steel tubs, steel tubes and bearing plates. The company has completed special order fabrication projects for railroads, commerical contruction clients and artists. Capital's structural steel fabrication clientele covers an area consisting of the great plains states, including the States of Montana, Wyoming and Colorado.
The company has also significantly expanded its steel fabrication facilities. Its steel shop has grown from a single wood frame building to a 45,000 foot integrated fabrication facility with 5 internal lifting bridge cranes, 2 external lifting bridge cranes and an extra large burn table. The burn table provides Capital the opportunity and ability to handle, efficiently and economically, large or small steel cutting jobs.
Committed to the future
Capital has and continues to maintain a commitment to excellence in all its work. Capital Steel is an approved American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) fabricator with a fracture critical endorsement. AISC audits the company on an annual basis to certify and insure that the highest standards of steel fabrication are maintained.
